SDCFCA Admin Section Visits HCFA!

Administrative professionals from the San Diego County Fire Chiefs Association Admin Section stopped by the ECC to get a closer look at what goes on in our center. Many of those who came to visit are a part of HCFA’s member agencies and they were able to see how HCFA and their fire department/districts work together.

Operations Manager Kristan Johnson and Management Analyst (GIS/Data Analytics) Justin Nettleton gave a presentation explaining all things dispatching and the operations of Heartland Communications. They explained how calls are processed, assessed and responded to, basically answering the question “What happens when you call 9-1-1?” In addition to the presentation, the visitors were taken on a tour of the ECC and shown the work station of each dispatcher, as well as the beginning stages of HCFA’s upcoming remodel.

It is common to hear that people don’t know or fully understand what it takes to be a 9-1-1 dispatcher, so this opportunity presented a great way for them to be able to ask questions and learn more about this quiet, but crucial occupation!
