HCFA Dispatchers Attend CTO Wellness Training

On June 16, 2025, Heartland Fire & Training served as the host location for a one-day CTO Wellness training designed specifically for Communications Training Officers (CTOs) navigating the high-stress world of emergency dispatch. The course, held at 1301 N Marshall Ave in El Cajon, addressed the unique challenges faced by CTOs as they juggle the responsibility of mentoring new hires while managing the demands of staffing shortages.

The training emphasized practical strategies beyond basic self-care to combat burnout, decision fatigue, and compassion fatigue—common issues in the public safety communications profession. By focusing on the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of CTOs, the course aimed to strengthen both individual resilience and team dynamics.

This POST-certified training was approved for reimbursement through the California 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Branch’s Annual Training Allotment (ATA), ensuring accessibility for agencies across the state.

Several CTOs from Heartland Communications Facility Authority (HCFA) attended the course, reaffirming HCFA’s ongoing commitment to professional development and the well-being of its training staff.
