9-1-1 Goes To Sacramento

For the past few years, team members from Heartland Communications have had the opportunity to participate in the annual “9-1-1 Goes to Sacramento” event in California’s capital city. This two-day training and advocacy event is organized by CalNENA and APCO, along with their chapters, NAPCO and CPRA. The event is designed to expand dispatcher knowledge of current public safety trends while fostering positive and productive relationships between 9-1-1 professionals and state legislators.

This year, the summit began on May 12 with a half-day training session focused on the latest advancements in emergency call handling, best practices, and policy updates. Later that day, attendees were invited to a reception with California lawmakers and staff members. On the second day, May 13, HCFA dispatchers and regional team members had the opportunity to discuss critical issues currently facing 9-1-1 dispatchers. From advocating for improved mental health resources and accessibility to supporting key policy changes that keep pace with advancing emergency response technologies, 9-1-1 professionals were able to make their voices heard.

Representing Heartland Communications at the event were Executive Director Jeff Logan, Fire Communications Supervisor Shannon H., and Fire Communications Dispatcher Rex A. Our outstanding HCFA representatives helped lead meaningful discussions with state legislators, providing valuable insight into the current challenges and evolving needs of the public safety sector. We look forward to seeing how Heartland Communications continues to make a lasting impact not only within local communities, but across California as well.
