Dispatch Academy Kicks off in New Year

This week marked the official launch of our FCD Training Academy, welcoming three new Fire Communications Dispatchers—Tracey, Jose, and Joshua. During their first week, the new hires began building a strong foundation in core dispatch concepts that included:

  • Jurisdictional Responsibilities

  • Learning Police and Fire Station Locations

  • Call Triaging

  • The Role of a JPA

  • Primary PSAP Versus a Secondary PSAP

  • Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and Fire-Related Responses

  • Effective CAD Use

  • The Importance of Caution Notes and Scene Safety

  • Collaboration With Our Local Law Enforcement Partners

Week one also included extensive testing to reinforce this critical knowledge.

Over the next month, the trainees will continue their foundational instruction while completing required certification courses in CPR and Emergency Medical Dispatch. Upon successful completion of the Dispatch Academy, each will transition to working alongside a Communications Training Officer (CTO) on the floor, beginning Phase 1 training and continuing their development as frontline dispatch professionals

Good luck to all our trainees!
