Happy Retirement Chief Sims!

After more than three decades of dedicated public service, Fire Chief Mike Sims is retiring following an accomplished 37-year career in the fire service. His commitment to protecting the community, mentoring future leaders, and strengthening regional partnerships has left a lasting mark on the fire service throughout the area.

Chief Sims was appointed Fire Chief of the Bonita Sunnyside Fire Protection District in 2019, where he continued to lead with professionalism, integrity, and a collaborative approach. Beyond his responsibilities as fire chief, he served as Chair of the HCFA Board of Chiefs for three years and participated in numerous committees, boards, and leadership groups, helping shape policies and strengthen cooperation among public safety agencies.

Throughout his career, Chief Sims recognized the critical role that emergency communications plays in public safety. His unwavering support of the Central Zone Dispatch team, combined with his genuine care for dispatch professionals and firefighters alike, fostered strong working relationships built on trust and mutual respect. His leadership helped reinforce the partnership between field responders and dispatch personnel, ultimately benefiting the communities they serve.

As Chief Sims closes this remarkable chapter of his career, we thank him for his 37 years of dedicated service, outstanding leadership, and enduring commitment to the fire service and emergency communications. His legacy will continue to inspire those who have had the privilege of serving alongside him. We wish Chief Sims a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement!
