HCFA Employee Spotlight
Met Rex
This month, we are proud to recognize Rex, one of our dedicated Fire Communications Dispatchers, who has been serving our community with professionalism and compassion for the past 11 months.
In emergency communications, every call matters and Rex approaches each one with the same goal in mind: helping someone in their moment of greatest need. While the job can be demanding, he finds motivation in knowing that his work makes a real difference.
“At the end of the day, I’m able to say that I helped coordinate assistance for someone on their worst day,” Rex shares. He also values the strong relationships and teamwork between HCFA and partnering public safety agencies, noting how important collaboration is in ensuring that every 911 call is answered promptly and effectively.
One of Rex’s proudest moments at HCFA was earning a CPR save in 2025, a meaningful accomplishment that highlights his dedication, training, and commitment to public safety.
Outside of work, Rex enjoys spending time with friends and family, exploring San Diego, and going on road trips. He is also an enthusiastic gamer, playing on both PS5 and PC, with favorites including Skyrim, Dragon’s Dogma, Fortnite, and the Resident Evil series. He’s always on the lookout for new games to try.
A fun fact about Rex is that he once lived in Bismarck, North Dakota for about a year and a half. On his first day there, he experienced negative 10-degree weather, drove in snow for the first time, and heard tornado sirens. Quite a change from life in Southern California. Despite the adjustment, he’s grateful for the experiences and friendships he gained during that time.
After long shifts, Rex recharges by taking walks along the coast and spending quality time with loved ones, simple moments that help him relax and stay balanced.
We are grateful to have Rex as part of the HCFA team. His dedication, teamwork, and genuine care for others make a lasting impact on both our organization and the community we serve. Thank you, Rex, for all that you do.
